Green Web Sydney is about the establishment of habitat corridors to link fragmented patches of bushland and facilitate the migration of wildlife and natural dispersal of native plants. Of equal importance, Green Web Sydney is also about highlighting local government's role in biodiversity management and suggests actions and strategies that Sydney's local councils can adopt to protect and enhance these habitat corridors. These strategies are contained within the Green Web Sydney Action Plan.
For local councils, Green Web Sydney suggests policies, planning strategies, on-ground vegetation works and development controls for vegetation management that will ensure biodiversity conservation and enhancement in Sydney. In particular, through the Devolved Grants Program, the project supports the introduction of institutional arrangements to establish long-term commitment by councils to regional bushland management. The project also supports the involvement of local communities in council initiatives and the joining of councils in projects that have mutual environmental benefit.
