To date, Green Web Sydney has been principally funded through the Bushcare program of the Natural Heritage Trust. The project received funding from Bushcare of $311,000 and $214,200 in the 2000/2001 and 2001/2002 financial years respectively. This funding has been supplemented by funding from CANRI (Community Access to Natural Resources Information) for the development of this website.
The funding received from Bushcare was used to establish a Devolved Grants Program, whereby the funds were distributed to Sydney's local councils via an application process to undertake environmental initiatives contained in the Green Web Sydney Action Plan. The funds were also used to employ a Project Officer over a 2-year period and develop a capacity building program for local government tailored towards biodiversity management.
In the lead-up to the second phase of the Natural Heritage Trust (NHT2), the Green Web Sydney project has submitted a funding application for the provision of additional funding over 3 years to undertake several new biodiversity initiatives. The funding application covers up to 12 biodiversity management actions from the Southern Sydney and Sydney Harbour Catchment Blueprints and will be assessed by Commonwealth officers during the second half of 2003. Further details about the application will be posted on this website as they become available.
